Geboren 1949 in Dublin/Irland, wurde C.D. international bekannt durch seine Mitwirkung bei der „electricjazz/free music“ – Gruppe „OM“ (1972 – 82). Das Trio „RED TWIST & TUNED ARROW“ (1985 – 87, mit Stephan Wittwer und Fredy Studer) und das Projekt „DORAN-STUDER-MINTON-BATES & ALI play the music of JIMI HENDRIX“ (1990 – 94) erhielten rasch internationale Anerkennung im Spannungsfeld von Komposition und freie Improvisation. Doran gab weltweit unzählige Solo- und Duo-Konzerte, u.a. mit Ray Anderson, Marty Ehrlich, Fritz Hauser. Doran´s aktuelle Projekte neben OM sind „Christy Doran’s SOUND FOUNTAIN“ (mit Lukas Mantel/dr und dem argentinischen E-Bassisten Franco Fontanarrosa oder Wolfgang Zwiauer/b), „144 Strings for a Broken Chord“ (einem Gitarren-Orchester mit 20 E-Gitarren, 4 E-Bässe und Schlagzeug), „Doran-Stucky-Studer & Jordi play the music of Jimi Hendrix“, „Triangulations“ (mit John Wolf-Brennan, Patrice Héral), Âme Sèche sowie „Beady Beast“ (akustisches Gitarren-Duo mit Franz Hellmueller).
2017 wurde er vom renommierten Magazin “JazzThing” in die Reihe “European Jazz Legends” gewählt. Er konzertiert rund um den Globus.

The trio „RED TWIST & TUNED ARROW“ (1985-87, with Stephan Wittwer and Fredy Studer) and the project „DORAN-STUDER-MINTON-BATES & ALI play the music of JIMI HENDRIX“ (1990-94) received rapid international recognition in the field of tension of composition and improvisation.
